Debt

In Debt cases, Legal Aid Agency funding is available to help clients where there is an immediate risk of homelessness due to:

  1. A Court Order for the sale of a person’s home
  2. A Court Order for possession of a person’s home because of mortgage arrears
  3. A Bankruptcy Order where the estate includes the person’s home and the Order is sought by someone other than the person (involuntary bankruptcy).

For these kinds of cases, most clients will need to request and access help through the Civil Legal Advice (CLA) telephone gateway (0845 345 4 345) in the first instance. If CLA assesses a client as in need of face-to-face advice, they may then direct the client to a provider such as ourselves.

Further information about CLA is available at www.gov.uk/civil-legal-advice.

The following groups of people do not have to request help via CLA and may contact us directly:
If you are within one of the groups of people who do not have to request help through CLA, please telephone us on 020 7263 7887 or e-mail us at enquiries@burkeniazi.com.

  1. children (under 18)
  2. clients deprived of their liberty (for example in prison or secure hospital)
  3. Those assessed by CLA in the last 12 months as requiring face-to-face advice from us, who have a further linked problem and are seeking help from us once again
